English Language Class Level Descriptions
Every class day all students have opportunities for reading, writing, and conversation to reinforce new English language skills.
Literacy – Students are introduced to the reading and writing process through letter recognition, letter formation, phonics and sight word recognition.
Level One – Students develop simple sentences using verbs and common everyday phrases.
Level Two – Students gain confidence using short sentences in their oral expression and are exposed to the basics of English grammar.
Level Three – Students expand their knowledge of grammar concepts focusing on parts of speech and verb tenses and exhibit growth in clarity of oral language.
Level Four – Students continue to develop use of grammar, and conversation becomes clearer, more concise and fluid.
Level Five – Students concentrate on using more advanced grammar concepts in written and oral expression.
Level Six – Students read and discuss newspaper articles and novels. They progress in thier understanding and use of idioms.
